Just a quick reminder, we have started a YouTube channel. It’s certainly in its infancy stage for sure and will be going through some growing pains but go check it out and we would appreciate it if you would subscribe while there. Before this quarantined life style kicked in for me it was like, Ok I normally play Pickleball 3 to 6 hours every day, go to the gym and do the elliptical an hour every other day and get in a decent but mellow bike ride every day and I eat pretty sensibly and for the most part pretty darn healthy so all was good.
Then this damn Coronavirus came around and the stay at home orders that accompanied it which in turn shut down almost everything INCLUDING Pickleball courts and gyms. OH MY GOD!!!
Well heck, then we had to figure out how to fill the days and get in enough exercise to offset the activities we had before all of this hit the fan AND our calorie intake.
At first it wasn’t too bad, we started walking every morning and increased our bike rides a little and everything seemed to stay pretty much in check, for a few days. But before long the reality of a 3 mile power walk only took about 40 minutes and when compared to the between 3 and 6 hours of Pickleball I played each morning the difference left a HUGE amount of time to fill and it soon became obvious that the easiest way to fill that time was by EATING! And with boredom came COMFORT FOOD AND JUNK FOOD EATING!!!!
Yup the days of yogurt and berries for breakfast followed by apples and cheese for lunch followed by a sensible dinner of fish or chicken with evening snacks of popcorn and 1 (just 1) frozen yogurt bar for an evening treat (Oh and 1 night a week we went to Culvers for a frozen custard) started going to the wayside. And before all this 90% of what I normally drank was water followed by about 5% tea and I would treat myself to a soda when we went out for dinner 1 night per week.
Oh sure, we still eat all the things we mentioned but with all of the extra time we have on our hands we have started filling that time with things like Vanilla Wafers, Graham Crackers (plain, cinnamon AND chocolate), pretzels, more comfort food cooking like French Toast, egg’s & potato’s, Beagles and cream cheese, cheesecakes, banana breads and I have even expanded my drinking habits to include a supply of soft drinks in the refer. OH and it’s not uncommon to find ourselves in the drive through at Culvers 2 nights a week which we blame on just wanting to get out of the resort LOL!!
Oh and then there is the bakery we mentioned in a previous update. One day Diane and I had a wild hair and went down to the bakery and bought a bunch of Bear Claws and dropped them off at few of our friends site’s, and kept a couple for ourselves of course.
Well that snowballed and of course the people we dropped pastries off to decided it was a good idea and they each took turns buying pastries and dropping them off as well!!! It seemed we were having fresh pastries every few days for a couple weeks LOL!!! Thank god we have worked through that cycle!!
Well heck, it didn’t long until standing in front of the mirror in the morning showed that the slight washboard stomach I had been working so hard to get back and started to achieve with all of the activities and planks I have been doing every morning was disappearing behind the added blubber that was so quick to come back. Damn, it wasn’t that way 40 years ago, or even 20, WHAT”S HAPPENING!!!!!
It became pretty darn obvious that we had to start getting more exercise so I downloaded a pedometer for my phone, set a goal, and started adding distance to our walks. Then when we got home we were so happy with the added distance and quick times and the amount of calories that app said we burned that we just HAD to celebrate, with a treat LOL!!
Well after the treat we realized by adding our treat to our already enhanced diet we had now taken in more calories than we burned so we had to add more distance the next day, which we did, and then guess what, we were so happy with what we added and how fast we were able to walk it that we just had to, yes you guessed it, CELIBRATE!!! And we celebrated even harder than we did the day before because it was a bigger achievement!!
This type of event continued day after day after day until now we are almost like a couple Forest Gump’s running and walking and bike riding through our day only to sit down with a box of chocolates to CELEBRATE at the end of the day!!! We are out of control!!!! This HAS to stop!!!
Ok along with dealing with our eating disorders a number of our friends have started leaving the area which makes us sad, and what do we do when we are sad? WE EAT!!! Oh crap, there we are right back to food!!!
But seriously we are happy for our friends that have started hitting the road to cooler temps. Many of them have sticks & bricks homes in other parts of the country (or outside the country) to head back to while others have other resorts somewhere else in the country where they can hunker down and deal with the ongoing Coronavirus issues. Regardless they have gotten out before the heat set in, and it has set in early this year it seems. Of course it did, we are here.
As you might know we would normally be out of here April 1st but because of the Coronavirus we have decided to stay put through May and leave June 1st and we based some of the decision by what many others have said about the months of April and May in the area and how nice it has been during those months the last couple years. Well April wasn’t too bad until the last week but we are sort of worried about what May will bring. Well maybe not worried but maybe not looking forward to it either. But we feel safe and that’s what counts right now.
I know a couple months ago in at least one update we complained about how unusually cool it was and how I knew we would be complaining about the heat before long but crap, I didn’t know how much complaining we would be doing LOL!!!
Yup, according to the weather people we have been right at all-time record temps of the month of April and we are right in the middle of a stretch of over 100 degree days. Did I ever mention that I like it in the 70’s!!
We came very close to setting new records a coupler days but missed matching the all-time high for April by1 degree. COME ON, if we are going to be that close lets go ahead a set a new record! Once you hit 104 what’s 2 more degree’s? It’s like Kenny Shephard says in the song Blue on Black, it’s like a match on a fire. (Oh and I love that song by the way)
Ok, between this stay at home stuff, social distancing and the heat I think I’m coming un-glued because this update seems to just ramble on about nothing LOL!!! We will try to put together something more meaningful next time, promise.
OK, here is one thing meaningful, remember the update where we talked about Pickleball Rocks and the We Will Survive shirts? Well I got my shirt and love it. And the proceeds went to a good cause.
I don’t think it’s too late to order one of the shirts so just click on the link on the sidebar of our blog where it says Pickleball Rocks and order away!! Here is a link to the update we did on the topic in case you missed it. https://wp.me/p2Dund-4vU
So I guess we should get this published so we can get out for our morning walk and get back for breakfast, WAIT, there we are right back to food again!!!!
