We have had a great time the last couple week’s boon-docking out on Plomosa Road outside of Quartzsite Arizona. We had our share of solitude for a few days, then slowly the Outside Our Bubble “OOB” group started rolling in and at one point we had 38 rigs roughly, then after a few days the group started dwindling and the next thing we knew it was just the two us sitting alone once again and we enjoyed every single stage of the transition for what it had to offer.
A few months ago David & Brenda from the Outside Our Bubble blog (http://www.outsideourbubble.com/) decided to put together a 1st ever Meet & Greet gathering in Quartzsite and because we had been following there blog off and on for some time now we figured HEY, why not meet some new people.
At that time we thought one of 2 other groups we wanted to connect with (The Class-less Group) was going to gather after the time set for the “OOB” gathering so it would work out perfectly and we would just move from one gathering to another. As it turned out the Class-Less group decided to move up there gathering which turned out to be the same time as the OOB gathering so we were not able to connect with them as a group, maybe next year. But we hope to find a few of them individually while we are still hanging around Quartzsite for a couple more weeks. We could have bounced back and forth a little I guess but it just didn’t seem right at the time.
We had a great group of people show up for the OOB meet & Greet and everyone seemed to hit it off pretty well and within no time at all we all acted like we had known each other for years. It usually turns out that Rv’ers are just a great bunch of people. The only people we had known before the gathering were our friends Bob and Karen who came by to visit for about 4 days and Steve & Karen whose blog we have followed for roughly 3 years and briefly met a year ago for about 10 minutes (http://gonebyrv.blogspot.com/?wref=bif). So everyone else were all new face.
Every morning about 8 a few of us would gather around the fire pit with coffee in hand to soak up a few rays from the morning sun and shoot the breeze. One morning David and Brenda bought about 12 dozen donuts for everyone, what a treat!!! I think that was the largest early morning gathering we had LOL!!! Hmmmm I wonder why.
We had a few scheduled activities during the gathering like a tech talk, a show & tell about hobbies that some do while on the road, a quadcopter fly event, a pot luck dinner that produced some great eats, 2 movie nights provided by David & Brenda on a huge 10×9 screen and of course great times around the fire every evening.
Oh, of course there was one more timed event that happened every evening that we had nothing to do with,,,,,,,,, GREAT SUNSETS!!!!!
Here is a link to a video that David put together (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRSgEPNnWto)
It was a relatively short gathering and with so many people “roughly 80” it was hard to mingle with everyone as much as we might have liked to on a one on one basis. And a number of them managed to depart while we were either away from camp or not looking and to those of you that happen across this blog that got away without a “see ya down the road” from us we say it now “SEE YA DOWN THE ROAD” and if not before hopefully next year and the next OOB Gathering.
A few of us got here a little before the event and a few stayed a little after so the camp fires became more intimate but as we mentioned, every stage of the experience was great and we will look forward to next year.
We are pretty much alone now in what was once the OOB circle and slowly people are starting to pull in and fill the void that was created by everyone’s departure and we to will soon lift our jacks and make a move after 15 days of dry camping. We will move into town and spend 2 nights at a full hookup RV park, do our laundry and some cleaning, empty our grey and black tanks and refill our fresh water and head back out to the desert for at least 2 more weeks of boon-docking and maybe more, time will tell. We need to do a little free camping to make up for the money spent on items at the RV show LOL!!!! We will talk more about those things in our next update.
We are looking forward to our next boon-docking location, we have a number of friends camping in that area as well and I’m sure many more happy hours around a fire are in store.
