Quartzsite Arizona and the Gathering

It’s been a couple weeks since our last update and I think we will call this the Children’s Book version of an update and let the pictures do most of the talking LOL!!

Since our last update we had our appointment at Discount Solar in Quartzsite and had another 4 solar panels added to our coach. That makes 8 panel’s equaling 1120 watts feeding our 6 Lifeline 6ct batteries.

The guys are on top of our rig installing the extra solar. We drove away with 8 panels equaling 1120 watts of solar on the roof.

Instead of cleaning our roof with soap and water I think all I will need is glass cleaner now with all the panels up there LOL!!

Since the install all we have done is boondock and so far we are pretty happy with the setup. On nice sunny days our batteries are fully charged by 1or 2pm and the system supplies enough power to do pretty much what we want to while the sun is shining. And our battery bank has been ample to get us through the night with plenty of power to run the heat if needed in the mornings and make a pot of coffee and keep us happy until the sun comes up and recharges the batteries again.

This picture shows that the panels were providing 45.5 amps and 51.2 amps were available to charge the batteries.

I took this picture about 1pm. It's showing that our batteries are at 14 volts (Just about 100% full and the solar is supplying 35 amps MORE power than the coach was using at that time.

I have a few more tests I want to run to see just what the limits might be like using our Green Mountain Davy Crockett smoker during the day. We will give out the results as they come round.

Right after the solar install we headed out to La Posa South just outside of Quartzsite Arizona and camped with a great bunch of Tiffin owners.

Some we had meet 2 years ago while boon-docking in Quartzsite and some we meet for the first time this year.

That was a full circle of rigs just a few days ago. All god things must come to an end. Until next year anyway!!!

It was a casual gathering with no real planned events but things popped up like pot-lucks, a margarita party, a day of football and of course a football pool (which I did pretty well in I might add) and of course great times around the fire each night.

OK,, no more pictures of us around the fire. But as you can tell the circle was getting smaller as people left. This in fact was our last night around the fire with the Tiffin group because the actual last night we camped there the wind was blowing to hard. To bad though but we were down to just 2 couple's left on the last night.

Yep, you guessed it.... another evening around the fire with the Tiffin group LOL!!! We had a great time.

We camped with the Tiffin group for 8 nights and had a great time. I’m sure the gathering will happen again next year and we are pretty sure we will be here to attend.

Side note- We (I) had a horrible computer issue arise while camping with the Tiffin group, one that I spent a few hours trying to correct and our buddy Robert also gave it a good run but couldn’t get it figured out. I had given up and figured I would need to take it to a shop the next time we were in a larger town. BUT, I want to give a big shout out and thank you to Tom who offered his assistance. Tom and Annie invited us over to their coach where Tom spent a couple hours running tests and removing unwanted crap from my computer while Diane and Annie enjoyed a nice visit. And thank you Annie for the great peanut butter and chocolate treats. They were great!!

During the same time frame we were invited to meet up with a bunch of old friends to Silly Al’s Pizza where a group of RV-Dreams people were meeting. We had a great time caching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

The place was hopping so it was really hard to hold a conversation with anyone more than a couple chairs away but a bunch of us plan to meet up again on the 29th for a mini-gathering and pot luck.

And we were invited over to Red & Pam’s along with Steve and Dianne for a happy hour and BBQ. Red & Pam are part of the RV-Dreams group and the Class-Less group which we planned to join up with after our time with the Tiffin group to camp for a while.

Red is into RC planes and also has a (toy), and I JUST HAPPENED to have my “toy” in the jeep so we both flew around for a while before the food hit the BBQ and we had a great meal.

After dinner we gathered around a fire and had a great time getting to know Pam & Red better and catching up with our old friends Steve and Diane. What a great life style we lead!!

Steve and Red planned to visit the local RC airfield the following day and invited me along so at 9am they pulled up to pick me up and away we went.

It's amazing how ice the RC airfield is in Quartzsite. One of the nicest we have seen.

Red also have a few RC airplanes and Steve used to fly planes and of course I have the “toy” and an interest in RC planes so we all had a great time looking and watching as others flew.

I am amazed at just how nice the RC airfield is here in Quartzsite. For being such a small town most of the year they have an airfield that would rival any we have come across. And it sure is a busy one during the winter months while all us RV’ers are in town.

As I type this Tiffin gathering has already broken up and we have already moved on and joined the Class-Less group but we will do a separate update for our time spent with them. AND A GREAT TIME WE HAVE HAD!!

I have taken video with the “toy” of the Tiffin gathering and our time with the Class-less group but have been too busy to take the time to edit any of it but will share it as soon as I do.

We plan to spend another week and a half dry camping here at Quartzsite before moving on. On to where we have not figured out yet. All we know is it will be south or east, the coin is still in the air.

I just seem to always be running out of time to catch up with people. Glad to hear you had such a great time in Q. Love the solar.

  2. I just added you to my blog. That drone is a really cool thing. Loved looking at all the pictures it took.

Okay Dave…if you really want a kite I’ll trade ya straight across! 🙂

Hi Dave and Diane, We follow your updates and really enjoy them, especially the pics. and videos. I’m sure you have seen the issue at the White House with the drone. Remember, “Don’t drink and Drone”!!!!!!!

Hello Jim & Bet!! We are glad you enjoy our blog, Hopefully as much as we like doing it. LOL!!! Nope, I sill have an eye on my “toy” so it’s not the one that ended up at the White House. But if I had a battery that would get it from here in Arizona to the White House I certainly would mass produce it and make some serious money LOL!!

It was great meeting you guys at the Tiffin gathering! Hopefully my urges to buy a “toy” will die down now that I’m not seeing it in action every day.

  6. Dave & Diane says:

We enjoyed meeting you guys as well!! If you keep watching video’s created by “toys” that itch won’t go away, trust me LOL!!
