Our short stay in Quartzsite

We have enjoyed our short stay in Quartzsite.

So what the heck is the draw to this tiny desert town called Quartzsite!!?? You would think that after spending 5 weeks off and on in the desert surround Q during the winter of 2012/13 we would have had our fill of the place, but oh no, it has drawn us back LOL!!

That's Diane up ahead leading us to our campsite. I wasn't sure she knew where she was going for a while LOL!!

At this time of year I guess it’s the peace and quiet and the feel of being all alone with no worries, no pressures, no expectations, and no real rules. It’s just you, nature and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the occasional bird, rabbit and as of today we can say DEER. Yep, we scared up a deer on today’s walk. And a pretty big healthy looking fellow I might add.

There really isn’t much to report. We mainly came to Q as a short layover before moving on to Desert Hot Springs to meet up with our friends Bob and Karen.

We spent our time taking walks in the desert, reading, kicking back in the lawn chairs soaking up the sun, enjoying some very nice sunrises & sunsets and basically relaxing.

We did take a drive into town to see if the seasonal vendors had started setting up shop yet, and they have but just. We were happy to see that the grocery outlet was open for business already so we took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on coffee. They always have coffee about $2 cheaper than we can buy it in a normal store as well as many other great deals. It’s the little things in life that make us happy LOL!!

Some people get creative with all of their spar time out here in the desert.

But it’s time to move on. We will be lifting jacks in the morning and heading out for a 150 mile travel day to Desert Hot Springs. We are looking forward to seeing Bob and Karen and spending Thanksgiving with them. It should be a great time.

This road leads right into the bushes and goes on beyond them. You just have to look, scratch your head and wonder.

We made this HAPPY out of rocks in Dec. 2012. The New Years is gone but the happy stayed in place for 2 years LOL!!

We will be returning to Quartzsite mid-January, probably the 14th, to attend the Big Tent RV event and boon-dock with some friends we meet in the desert in 2012. We will probably camp with them for 10 days and then make a move and hook up with another group about the 24th and boon-dock with them until the end of January before moving on. Hey, we sort of have a plan for the next couple months it seems.

One thing is for sure, Quartzsite will be a different animal when we return in January.

  1. Looking forward to getting there one day. Happy Thanksgiving and thanks, again, for sharing your adventures with us, We enjoy reading your blog and we are looking forward to visiting as many of the places you mention as we can once we start our journey west.

Are you planning on spending any time at the Tiffin area? We are going, but will mostly visit and staying with hookups at Rice Ranch.

    Later,
    Richard

We sure do Richard. We plan to roll in around the 14th, I think I read that some of the Tiffin group was coming in about then. Looking forward to seeing you guys again!

What’s the Tiffin area? We’re (slowly) on our way to Quartzsite for our first time. We’ve been full-timing for 7 months now in our 2014 Allegro, but have not boondocked yet. Not quite sure what to do, where to go once we get to QZ in January! Looking for some groups to join who can babysit us a bit 🙂

Hello Mike,,,, it’s not really a Tiffin sanctioned get together at all, just a few Tiffin owners and probably a couple folks with other brands as well I would guess. And it’s not in a campground, they gather at Las Posas South, about a mile passed the ranger station. No set spot yet, just where ever the first person there finds to claim.
If you are on the TiffinRVnetwork.com forum by chance you can find what chatter there is about it under the (Other ralleys and get to-gethers) area.

That place will be hopping when you get back there. So glad you were able to enjoy the peace and quiet for a couple of days.
