A bike riding day around Hilton Head

Another good day 10/24/13. This morning we woke to another sunny day, well I normally get up before the sun comes up but you get it.

After breakfast Diane took Jack for a walk while I finished up a couple things around home. After a while I jumped on my bike and headed towards the walking and bike trail outside the park. I knew that’s where they were headed.

After being on the trail for a short time I saw Diane and Jack just standing there. I instantly had that,,, that looks odd,, feeling as I picked up the pace a bit. Sure enough, Diane said I wonder if we can borrow a golf cart from the campground for Jack.

He had a pretty good catch in his get along and wasn’t wanting to walk. But after a short time and a little slow walking he seemed to be doing pretty good. Until he picked up a thorn in his paw!!! Geeeezzzz. When it rain it pours.

Once the thorn was taken care of we continued home at a slow pace and all was good. Jacks rabies vaccination is due to expire at the end of this month so we need to take care of that, so we decided this would be a good time to take him in for a exam and his shot. Diane made an appointment at 9:30 Friday morning.

I think his leg is fine but we may as well make sure all is good while we are in a area with a vet clinic so readily available. Some places we go we don’t have that luxury.

Once we had Jack all squared away we jumped on our bikes and headed back to the trail. I have to say that the bike trails around the island are fantastic!! They run all over the place and it’s so level here that you can cover a lot of ground effortlessly.

We rode down to the Yacht Club and then headed towards the beach where we were able to go ride the bikes on the sand.

The weather was great and we probably rode around 8 miles I would guess before heading home.

After some time around the campground talking with fellow campers and relaxing we jumped in the Jeep and took off for a driving tour around the island until it was too dark to really see anything. Then we stopped for a pizza and headed home to watch game 2 of the World Series.

I think tomorrow after Jacks vet appointment we will head to the Harbor Town area of the island.

  1. We almost drove up to Hilton Head today! Didn’t know anything about it, but it looks like we could have enjoyed some biking on the beach and trails! We are staying on the SC side near Savannah. We are doing a trolley ride tomorrow then leaving Saturday for Brunswick. Hope Jack is alright.

Next time your in the area you will know to swing in Hilton Head. I’ll be looking forward to reading about your trolley ride. We will be right on your heals next week!! Have fun.

Where are you staying and any final thoughts on where you stayed in Charleston?

    • Dave & Diane says:

We are at the Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort. We like it just fine so far. Historic Downtown Charleston area and Fort Sumter were both good places to visit. And I’m sure there are a lot more things to see but the traffic turned me off. I would probably take a friends advice and try The Campground at James Island’ if we ever went back. Oak Plantation was fine but it was right on highway 17 and there was some road noise. And of course it meant that as soon as you hit the road it was traffic. BUT it was right on the route we were going on so that did make it easy.
