Friday 9/27/13 we headed out to tour the last thing that was on our must see list for the area,,, Yorktown.
Yorktown was about 20 miles from our campground but most of the way there we drove the Parkway so again had a nice mellow drive MOST of the way.
Once there our first stop was at the Victory Center.
Next to the battlefield where allied American and French forces won the decisive battle of the American Revolution in 1781, the Yorktown Victory Center has a nice display of the Revolutionary period.
The first thing we toured was a re-created site farm, which included a cabin, separate kitchen, tobacco barn, crop field and fenced garden, historical interpreters demonstrate the seasonal cycle of work that characterized lower- to middle-class farm life in southeastern Virginia.
They even had a fire going inside the cabin with some cornbread being made in a Dutch oven.
Then we headed into the museum,, and of course once again no photo’s. We watched a short 20 minute film and then spent another hour probably looking around before going back outside where we toured a re-created Continental Army encampment, where historical interpreters describe the daily life of American soldiers.
There were demonstrations of military drills, musket and artillery firing, 18th-century surgical and medical practices, and the role of the quartermaster in managing troop supplies.
Once we finished up at the Victory Center we headed downtown where we mainly walked the water front and had lunch at the Yorktown Pub.
It was nice and warm but not hot, the sun was shining bright and there was a very nice breeze, just the type of day I love!!! Plus the waterfront was nice and clean and scattered with a few small shops and places to eat. We could have sent a couple days sitting along that waterfront with no problem at all!!
Then it was time to head home. And once again our lunch was big enough that neither of us wanted any dinner so we just chilled the rest of the evening with a couple walks and TV. Another good day!!
Saturday 9/28/13 was a do nothing day!!! We spent the day going through cupboards and closet purging some stuff we just never use and then took a bunch to Good Will and some to the garbage. We,, like most that take off on a fulltime RV lifestyle,, packed along to much stuff LOL!! And to be honest we both could still get rid of more cloths.
Then we figured because we plan to head out to a new area on Sunday we had better figure out just where that will be LOL!!! We had a couple general direction thoughts in our mind but nothing set in stone. But I think we figured it out. Well to be honest we have 3 possible spots and no reservations and they are all about 50 or so miles from each other so I guess we will see just where we land at the end of the day LOL!!!
