Tuesday morning we woke to blue sky’s after a night of off and on showers. So I grabbed some coffee and sat out on our new patio. The red dirt in the area was pretty moist after the rain so I just sat outside and enjoyed the morning while letting Diane sleep in.
After Diane got up around 9!! “Diane says we lost a hour someplace but I’m not sure. I’ll look into that when we get up out of the canyon and we have internet again“ we had breakfast and went for a walk towards some cabins that are for rent. They were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1933 and 1937.
The CCC was a New Deal program developed under the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide jobs to the unemployed during the depression of the 1930’s. The program was initially designed to employ young men and later grew to include World War 1 Veterans.
The first group of men with the CCC arrived in Palo Duro Canyon on July 11th 1933 to start working on the park.
After our walk we headed up to the visitor center to have a look around. It certainly is one of the nicer ones we have seen.
After the visitor center we just meandered around the park checking things out and then went back home for some lunch before heading back out to walk a couple trails.
It was pretty warm,,, at the end of one short 2 mile trail there was a thermometer and it read 92 degree’s. Good grief,, I think on Wednesday we will do a early morning trail and then one later in the evening LOL!!
Ok,, Wed. we got up early,,, well early for us anymore,, and hit a walking trail before the heat set in. This trail was another easy one but nice just the same.
After the trail we jumped in the jeep and did a driving tour outside the park for a while. Not a bunch to see so back home we went.
It was another warm day,, in the low 90’s ,, so we just relaxed around camp until about 6:30 when we headed out on another trail for a 2 mile hike. Then back home to relax the rest of the evening.
Thursday was going to be move day again. It was supposed to be a easy short travel day but OHHH NOOOO it turned into a chore!! Another not so great day but you will have to read about that on our next update. But rest assured that we are safe and sound in Amarillo Texas for now.
