Kicked back weekend in Elephant Butte NM

Saturday was just like I said it was going to be in our last update. Just sat around camp,,, watched some TV,, went on a couple walks and chilled.

Oh,, I did go but a new 17’ Cosco multi function ladder the other day so I had to reorganize the basement yet again LOL!!. Did I just do that while at City of Rocks. Oh well.

Speaking of City of Rocks. I wanted to bring up something important that might be helpful in the future to someone.

While planning out route to here (Elephant Butte) on the map I thought I found a good route. However after checking a link online for low clearances I found there was a low bridge on that route that would have caused us grief. Here is the link.

When going on back roads I always check this link.

Now back to current times. Sunday after a two mile hike and breakfast we jumped in the Jeep and ran out to a small town called Engle. We read a little about and new it would be small but had no idea it would really be only ONE building left from the 1800’s. Had we known that we probably would have passed on that trip LOL!! Here is a link but when it says a few buildings it should read 1. The one in the picture.

ON the way back we stopped at the Elephant Butte Dam and spent some time taking in the sights. The water is WAY down but still pretty.

There is a huge park area above the dam that has just been let go. At one time I'm sure it was something to be seen.

Another picture of the park I mentioned. See all of the rock work. It's like that all over. The park is big enough to have a couple thousand people in it and still not be in eachothers way. But now it is really nothing but a boat ramp area. What a shame. Except we had it all to ourselves.

Taken from above the dam. It's crazy how low the water is.

After our outing we headed home and then I went down to the golf course and hit a bucket of balls. There was a pretty stiff wind so I’m not sure I could really tell what my shots were doing but I enjoyed it none the less.

So much for Sunday!! Monday we plan to drive the northern part of Cochise Trail through Chloride, Winston, Cuchillo, Monticello and a couple other places.

It is supposed to be another warm day so getting up into the 8000ft elevations should feel good.

Here are a few more random shots.

Yep Ray,, having a good time. New Mexico is a place we could certainly spend some time. There are so many things to see and so little time. State Parks are great,,, ghost towns are fun and the wether isn’t bad. Wait until our update about Chloride where we went Monday, GREAT GREAT place and story.
