Friday we decided to do a walking to do a walking tour of downtown Truth Or Consequences. But first we had breakfast and went for a 2 mile hike towards Elephant Butte Lake.
Once we headed down town we stopped and got Diane’s Taxes in the mail and out of our minds.
On the way we decided to have lunch first. We have been eyeing a small old building that houses Maria’s Mexican restaurant. The parking lot has been full every time we had gone by. So we decided to give it a shot. Let me tell you…..parking lots don’t lie.
It was obvious it is a favorite of the locals. You can just tell that over 90% of the people in there were locals and I can see why. This place looks like it has been serving the locals forever. The building is smallish, old, and in need of refurbishing but the food was great.
After lunch we found a place to park downtown,, which was easy,, and started roaming the streets. The shop’s were a mixture of psychedelic 60’ish / 70’s type shops with a couple dime store’s and small resteraunts mixed in as well as mineral hot spring spas.
It didn’t take all that long for us to see what we wanted to. But we did find a neat deli with a nice outdoor seating area we might visit.
Then we decided to visit the Geronimo Springs Museum. The museum contains the history of Sierra County, New Mexico. From the mammoth and mastodon skulls and the world-class collection of prehistoric Mimbres pottery to the Apache, Hispanic, military, mining, ranching, and cultural exhibits, the Museum is a fascinating complex of historical artifacts. Each of several rooms represents a specific subject of history, with displays and artifacts interpreted so that the viewer can understand the items exhibited.

After the museum we headed home with a short stop at a war memorial they have set up in Truth or Consequences.
Once home we decided lunch still had us filled up so we had a light dinner and kicked back.
Saturday is going to be a relaxing day I think. Maybe a walk or two, watch a little of the Masters golf tournament, probably a BBQ and maybe go down to the golf course and hit a bucket of balls. No big plans.
We did decide to pay for a month here and stay for 2 weeks. It’s crazy how paying for a month and staying for two weeks turns out to be cheaper than paying for a week and staying for 1 week. But we don’t make the rules
