The last of Deming and a travel day to the City of Rocks

Sunday (Easter) we decided to go check out a couple parks in the area. So after our normal morning routine and a run to the grocery store we all loaded up in the jeep and headed out to Rockhound State Park. It was only about a 10 mile drive from our campground.

I told Diane while driving that it was either going to be empty or packed to the gills because of the holiday. Well it was packed! Every site was full and flowing over and it was filled with kids in the roadways.

There were a couple trails we sort of wanted to walk on but with the crowds we decided to just do a drive through and head out. It does look like a place that we wouldn’t mind camping for a few days.

Then we headed to the day use area of Rockhound called Spring water. It was pretty neat because it was carved into the steep hillsides. And we were amazed at the kids that were climbing up the sides of those mountains!!! I took a couple pictures but you couldn’t really see anything. The place was so packed there wasn’t really a place to pull over and take them so you will just have to take my word.

After some driving around we decided to just head home and clean up so we could go out to dinner. We had a serious hankering for some Mexican food!!

When it came time for diner we headed out looking for 1 of two top rated Mexican restaurants in the area. However there was not one single Mexican restaurant open in the entire town!!

Determined to at least eat out we stopped at Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Oh well it filled the void.

Monday rolled around and it was time to get out of Deming. But first I had to head over to the Jeep dealership to get an oil change,

We rolled out of the Dream Catcher RV park about 11am and headed to the City of Rocks State Park.

It was a short drive,, only about 30 miles out of Deming but what a treat when we pulled in!! I’m not going to elaborate just yet but I’m sure you will be amazed at the sights yet to come. Here are just a couple of teasers.

Thats us camped in front of the rocks. We are in the highest point of the park with a great view.
